We learn how to read, write and speak Spanish. We cover the essential grammar and vocabulary about lots of useful things such as food and drink and traveling, and lots of not-so-useful things such as daily routines (brushing teeth, making bed, etc.) and different exercises. This is learned through strict adhesion to the textbook. Some bits and pieces of Hispanic culture are scattered throughout the course (no taco parties, unfortunately).
what's it like?
Spanish the class is, quite frankly, unbearably boring. Every day is the same exact thing; spontaneity and fun essentially cease to exist in that stuffy portable. However Spanish the language is a straightforward language to learn and has an interesting cultural background. For many, Spanish is quite easy and gives students a false assurance because simply adhering to the textbook does not prepare them very well for the IB assessments. Our advice is to take advantage of the reading materials offered by the teacher; this will really familiarize you with the language.
